Due to our size and diversity, we can offer you a structured yet challenging development programme where you'll have the support of a Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor to assist you in reaching your full potential. The programme will support your career development into a permanent role with SSE that reflects your experience and passion.

What will I do on the programmes?

Depending on the programme you choose, you could be involved in a broad range of exciting projects across the UK and/or Ireland. All roles are likely to involve some travel to other sites to gain practical exposure to a wide range of business areas, therefore a full UK driving licence would be an advantage but is not essential.

Here's a flavour of some of the exciting initiatives you could be involved in, for each Division.

Business Services (Perth, Glasgow, Reading, Dublin)

Working within our SSE business you'll be at the forefront of seeing how our business operates. You'll be involved in projects and activities that help us ensure our business is not only running effectively but is continually utilising innovative and commercially viable new technologies and efficient ways of providing energy to all customers.

For this programme, you'll ideally have a minimum of a 2:2 degree in a business degree discipline.  This may include but is not limited to Business Studies, Business Admin, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting & Finance, Commerce, Legal, Procurement, Statistics or other business-related discipline.

Transmission (Perth, Glasgow): Here you'll work within the Business Planning & Commercial team to support a range of business activities from project development, regulatory submissions, data analytics, strategy and business controls to gain a broad understanding of the dynamic and growing business unit. You'll also gain wider exposure with the capital delivery, engineering and operational teams to gain an appreciation of the full project lifecycle and underpinning governance processes.

Distribution (Reading, Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Portsmouth): Working within our Distribution business you'll be at the forefront of seeing how our network operates. You'll be involved in projects and activities that help us ensure our network is not only running effectively, but is continually utilising innovative and commercially viable new technologies and efficient ways of providing energy to all customers.  Additionally we are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join our Distribution business.

Enterprise Distributed Energy (Reading, Glasgow): Working within a diverse, dynamic and growing business, you'll have the chance to learn about commercial management, proposal preparation, business development, and business sector support. With opportunities across our Commercial and Business Development teams you'll experience the end-to-end process from bid preparation and submission, right through to contract award, contract execution, and ultimately asset management.

For this programme, you'll ideally have a minimum of a 2:2 degree in a numerical degree discipline. This may include but is not limited to Mathematics, Statistics, business, economics, engineering or other related discipline. Consideration will also be given to students with any engineering or STEM qualification.

What do I need to join?

We'd love you to have practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for business, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.

You should have an interest in the energy sector, and show alignment with SSE's core values. We also ask that you have a flexible approach to work locations and be genuinely committed to developing a career with us – as we are with you.
