What is the opportunity?

In the coming months, we are looking to recruit Graduate Consents Advisors to join our development and consents teams working on the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects through all stages of the development and consenting process both in the UK and Ireland and internationally.  This includes roles on our growing pipeline of onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and hydro projects.  You will have the opportunity to gain experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team on a wide range of consenting issues, to challenge yourself through dealing first hand with the complexities of consenting these large-scale projects and also play an important role in delivering renewable energy targets in the drive for a net zero carbon future.  

During your first two years in the role, you will have the opportunity to rotate round different placements in our development team gaining experience of different renewables technologies and projects at various stages of the development process.  You will visit both development and operational sites and work on a variety of projects to gain a broad experience of developing and consenting renewables projects.  We can offer you a structured yet challenging development programme where you'll have the support of the Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor to assist you in reaching your full potential. The programme will support your career development into a permanent role with SSE that reflects your experience and passion.

What do I need?

As a base requirement, individuals should have a minimum of a 2:2 degree in a relevant discipline such as planning, science, environmental or similar, and may either have, or be working towards, professional membership of a relevant technical or professional body, for example the RTPI, IEMA or similar.  Those seeking professional accreditation will be mentored and supported through the process during the normal course of the role.  

To be considered for a role individuals should have effective communication, teamwork, problem solving, negotiation, research and analytical skills as well as being organised, motivated and able to work on their own initiative.

You’ll be passionate about SSE’s business strategy which is to drive the transition to a zero-carbon future through the world class development, construction and operation of renewable energy assets .  

Having a background in Renewables isn’t necessary, and we’re open to applications from those with transferable experience. It’s more important to us that you share our values, bring unique experience and are eager to learn.
