Upon joining SSE as a Thermal Land & Consents Graduate, you'll be leading the way in contributing to an improved energy landscape for future generations.

You will benefit from exposure and real- life experience, alongside first-class guidance to develop your technical skills and our Graduate Programme will provide the supportive, yet challenging, environment to allow you to excel to reach your full potential. In doing so, this will provide the foundation for you to become our next technical, experienced, and driven future leaders - vital on our journey towards net zero.

As a Land & Consents graduate joining SSE, you will follow a specialist pathway. Graduates will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of their graduate programme, with the aim of providing experience that will lead to a substantive post within the land and consents team.

We at SSE Thermal are currently working on a number of high- profile projects to support our vision of becoming the leading provider of flexible thermal energy in a net zero world. We create value for shareholders and society by developing, operating and owning low-carbon energy infrastructure in a sustainable way.

You will be supported in your role with a placement plan, regular meetings with your line manager and networking with key business leaders through quarterly placement reviews. Your placements may include but are not limited to the following teams; Flexible Generation, Hydrogen, Construction, Operations, gaining experience and knowledge to develop into a role within the land and consents team.

What do I need to join?

You'll be on track to have a 2:2 honours degree in one of the following degree disciplines; Geography, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Surveying, Planning.

We'd love you to have some practical work experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE Thermal and the prospect of a long term future with us.

We've listened to our previous graduates, and understand the importance of maintaining a work-life balance. When you join us, you can benefit from our Flexible First approach, and this will be unique to your own circumstances. This might mean a hybrid work pattern, or flexibility across the working week, but between you and your manager, you will work together to find the most suitable approach.

This will be a structured and challenging development programme where post-holders will have the support of the Learning and Development Graduate Programme Manager, a business manager and professional engineering mentor to assist them in reaching their full potential. The programme will support their career development into a permanent role with SSE that reflects their experience and passion.

You will also have the choice to be involved in our Education and Employability outreach events, as well as a range of volunteering opportunities to help inspire the next generation of engineers. In addition to this, some of our existing graduates are involved in the recruitment process which we find incredibly rewarding!
