We are looking for a driven individual to join our Sub Assembly department at Plant Swindon for a 13 month placement, commencing July 2022. Sub Assembly is a key part of the MINI production system, taking both pressed panels from the Swindon Press Shop and parts bought in from external suppliers, we join parts together using laser welding, resistance welding, adhesive sealer and many other advanced maufacturing techniques. 100+ associates work alongside over 250 robots and now 14 AGVs to build 39 unique Assemblies which are shipped to MINI Plant Oxford as well as the wider BMW network (Europe, China, etc). Precision engineering and excellent process & quality control, enabled by an experienced and enthusiastic team make Sub Assmebly an exciting opportunity for someone looking to learn, contribute and develop in a high-performance team.

 

What will you be doing? 

  • Working to drive the optimisation of Auto Guided Vehicles in the Sub Assembly production system, a pilot project for the BMW Group. 
  • Using and analysing complex data from multiple systems to lead improvements in order to reach the necessary levels of performance. 
  • Observing the process and using problem solving to put into place robust measures to ensure performance levels can be maintained and continuously improved by the local teams.
  • Co-ordinating meetings and presenting findings to relevant colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Taking this learning on to other AGV projects which will be underway across both Swindon and Oxford plants. 
     

Qualifications

  • Studying towards a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (particularly Mechanical, Automotive etc.), Manufacturing, IT or a related field and on track to receive a 2:2 or above.
  • Prior work experience is desirable, but not necessary. 
  • Good IT skills, with experience with PowerBI, Excel or similar software to present data being especially valuable. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle responsibility whilst working independently, following findings and testing theories.
  • Willingness to travel to other Plants and potentially to suppliers, a full UK driving licence would be preferred. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
