About the role

We are also open to applications from students who have recently graduated and are looking to expand their knowledge and experience in this field.

The Tata Steel 20 Inch Pipe Mill Engineering Projects Team is a fast-paced, results-centred engineering support function to a high-performing, heavy-industrial manufacturing business. We are currently engaged in several exciting engineering projects that will deliver tangible improvements to the performance, reliability and safety of this steel tube mill, based in Hartlepool.

To support in these projects and to enable a suitable Mechanical Engineering student the opportunity to develop their skills and experience, within a team of highly proficient professional engineers, we are offering a position for up to one year within this team.

Depending upon the candidate’s experience and preference, three options are available for roles within the team:

Option A - Project Management

This role will see the candidate assisting with the planning and management of a large development project. Responsibilities will include:

  • Scheduling of project activities.
  • Budget control.
  • Producing purchasing enquiry documents, evaluating quotations, and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Managing contractors.
  • Liaising with construction personnel.
  • Planning construction activities, including resourcing, risk-assessment and risk-control.

Option B - Construction Management

This role will see the candidate assisting with the management of construction activities on the ground, including:

  • Workshop fabrication and assembly.
  • Interpretation of engineering documents and drawings.
  • Construction / installation management.
  • Health and safety controls management.
  • Managing contractors.

Option C - Project Mechanical Design

This role will see the candidate producing designs and engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks CAD software to assist with developing the on-going improvements and innovations that keep the 20 Inch Pipe Mill in the top league of world-wide tube manufacturing industry.

To be eligible for a placement you should be on track to achieve a 2:1 degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
