Our software engineers continue to lead the way, building technology that can have a real impact on our customers. Our paid, 10-week programme over the summer will give you exposure to a selection of the latest technologies. It aims to equip you with the right knowledge and skills to become one of our future engineering leaders. You’ll be able to bring your knowledge and experience to life, helping us to better serve our customers. We’ll also show you how to architect some of the most complex and ambitious software systems being built. Using agile principles, you’ll learn how to protect customer data, how to automate and how to build large scale systems.

You’ll experience the breadth of software engineering with the opportunity to spend time in our front end or back end development teams. You’ll be paired with other engineers in your team and work closely with your product managers to build software for either our customers or colleagues.

A successful internship with us can guarantee your place on our Technology Software Engineering graduate programme when you graduate - before you’ve even started your final year of study!

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for interns with a passion for technology. It’s not vital you’re studying for a degree in computer science, but you must be able to demonstrate your ability to write quality coding. We’re looking for logical problem solvers who are keen to learn and build their skills, and who enjoy the challenge of working with something new.

What you need: predicted 2:2 degree

Working at our Welwyn Garden City campus

Our leafy, green campus is just 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of Welwyn Garden City with its many shops, restaurants, pubs and sports facilities. Close to the A1, and with frequent trains running to Finsbury Park in just 20 minutes (free shuttle buses take you between the station and office), the campus is well connected to the surrounding area.

On campus you’ll find subsidised restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a Tesco Express to pick up your lunch or last-minute essentials. You can join the on-site Nuffield Health gym, which has state-of-the-art fitness equipment, two studios for group classes, plus treatment rooms.

Your experience with us

Induction

We’ll kick off with a two-day induction, where you’ll learn more about our business and your programme. It’s a great opportunity for you to meet your fellow interns. We’ll then introduce you to your team, so you can get to know more about your role and the area you’ll be working in.

Store experience

You’ll spend two days out of your ten weeks working in one of our stores. The time you spend there will help you to learn how our stores operate, how they link to your role or project and help you to understand our customers, so you can serve them a little better every day.

Programme structure

You’ll gain real-life experience by completing part of a project, working collaboratively with other colleagues. Although you’ll be based in one area for the duration of your internship, you’ll get an insight into the breadth of opportunities at Tesco.

Where next?

Throughout your internship, you’ll be encouraged to develop skills and gain experience that will support you in your future career. You’ll also receive valuable feedback on how you’ve performed during your 10 weeks to help understand your strengths and areas to develop further.

Application deadline

We recruit on a rolling basis, which means roles will be filled on a first come first served approach, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
