This internship is within the London based EMEA Finance team who are responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of the Company’s financial books and records. Your role will entail providing support to the team by assisting with various matters in the areas of ledger entry, financial control, financial reporting and tax.

Looking for x2 headcount, this internship is perfect for someone contemplating a career in Accountancy. The successful applicant will gain experience working across the European business of Liquidnet in all areas of finance and, through their work, gain an understanding of the wider investments industry space. They will also have an opportunity to interact with all departments (Legal, Compliance, Technology & Operations in the EMEA & US regions) and thereby develop an understanding of the end-to-end operation of a Company.

Primary Job duties:

You will have the opportunity to get involved in the various operational aspects of our work, such as commission systems maintenance, revenue reconciliation, treasury management, regulatory reporting, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Reporting to the European Group Financial Controller in London, you will receive mentoring and support throughout, but daily interaction will be with the team. You will be assisting in the areas of:

  • Prudential reporting
  • Control enhancement
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Management reporting
  • Statutory reporting
  • Month end and year end close procedures

Risk Responsibilities

Ensure that you understand the risks and controls on your department; what could go wrong, what controls you have to prevent/detect or contain these.

All staff have defined risk management responsibilities. The Group imposes additional responsibilities on line-managers and senior managers. It is critical that all staff discharge their risk management responsibilities when undertaking their role. Specific responsibilities are incorporated into employee objectives, and your performance against these objectives will be assessed as part of the firm’s performance management process. You will also be required to confirm that you have discharged your risk management responsibilities through the annual risk management attestation process.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Articulate and confident communication style, able to represent firm with external communication
  • Proactive and able to work independently, with excellent communication skills and rigorous attention to detail
  • Ability to cope well in a fast-paced environment and work calmly under pressure
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment, and handle confidential information

Desirable

  • Previous experience within an office environment
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and analyzing large amounts of data within pivot tables etc.
