The Role

As a graduate, the two year development programme will be made up of up to eight placements, typically lasting three months. We understand that everyone's career is different, so every graduates’ journey is unique. Projects will vary but can include design within multi-disciplines including fire, mechanical, electrical, comms & system design including fire interfaces.

Some example projects which our graduates have previously worked on include:

  • Bank Station Capacity Upgrade
  • Crossrail fire strategy and fire assurance
  • Silvertown Tunnel – Design of Active and Passive Fire protection systems.
  • Edgware Bus Garage – EV Bus Fire Risk Analysis
  • Victoria coach Station – Upgrade of fire safety systems

The programme will provide you first-hand experience working on sites with construction teams to learn about emergency management, installation of fire related systems and fire interfacing systems. Additionally, you will gain exposure to business operations, procedures network management and emergency procedures throughout the TfL network.

Requirements

Candidates must already hold or be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Structural Fire Engineering, Fire Risk Engineering or Fire Safety Management (or another similar fire related subjects).

Your work will span multiple transport modes throughout TfL and you will be working with stakeholders and suppliers to deliver large scale projects to ensure the continued reliable operation of one of the world's leading transport networks. What you can expect from us

Whilst on the scheme, we'll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We'll also support your professional development through a combination of training courses, online training, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities with scheme alumni.

We also have an established Graduate and Apprentice Committee and Alumni group, who organise informative events to enhance your understanding of the organisation and provide opportunities to develop your career. They also provide valuable support for the wellbeing of current graduates.

The aim of the programme is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. Within five years, you should be in a position to achieve incorporated or chartered status and taking on assignments at a Senior Engineer level and being responsible for delivering key engineering solutions. Some graduates have gone on to lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers delivering key projects, transforming how TfL operates and directly improving the experience of the travelling public
