Are you an experienced Research Administrator with a strong understanding of grant funding, costing, and academic collaboration? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an University of Oxford department as a Temporary Research Facilitator .

As a key member of the Research Support Team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting world-leading researchers in the development, costing, and submission of high-quality funding proposals. You’ll be the primary point of contact for Principal Investigators and collaborators, advising them on complex funder requirements, University policy, and contractual matters.

Key responsibilities include

  • Acting as the liaison between researchers, funders, Research Services, and departmental leadership throughout the grant submission process.
  • Providing expert advice on funder policies, departmental procedures, and research costing using the University’s X5 tool.
  • Reviewing and improving non-technical aspects of research proposals, and arranging peer reviews to enhance proposal quality.
  • Identifying post-award risks and supporting smooth project initiation, including research contracts, staff recruitment, and compliance.
  • Monitoring major funding calls and proactively disseminating relevant opportunities to researchers.
  • Supporting strategic projects by analysing research outcomes, impact, and funding trends.
  • Assisting with compliance on Open Access policies and funder outcome reporting.

About you

We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with:

  • A degree in a science subject or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to edit and assess research proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust across academic and administrative teams.
  • Confidence in interpreting contractual documents and policies, and presenting complex information clearly.
  • A track record of working to deadlines, managing multiple projects, and offering constructive feedback to senior colleagues.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and an analytical mindset for managing and reporting data.
  • Discretion, diplomacy, and sound judgment when dealing with sensitive information.
