VMware’s Legal department devise ways to best mitigate legal risks while still pursuing business objectives in an ever-changing global environment. In this role you will work with Legal team members across EMEA and the world on a broad variety of business issues which are critical to VMware’s success. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of legal disciplines with senior Legal experts – no two days will ever be the same!

Success in the Role

What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work towards completing?

During your 12 month internship you will receive training and support to complete tasks assigned to you by your Manager and other members of the VMware Legal department. As you develop in the role you will become more accountable for tasks and will continue to be supported in taking on this additional responsibility.

You will be supported and encouraged to get involved with areas of law that interest you, whether that is commercial business issues, data privacy, employment / HR, antitrust and competition, or anything else which crosses the path of VMware’s busy EMEA Legal department.

The Work

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of legal issues, working closely with business stakeholders across EMEA and globally. Some typical topics would include:

  • Reviewing, amending and drafting agreements with our channel partners and end customers, and helping to shape partner incentives
  • Assisting with regulatory and internal investigations
  • Assisting with HR matters
  • Providing compliance advice to business stakeholders on a variety of issues

You will receive close supervision and training on a broad scope of legal issues and topics, helping you to develop your understanding of various areas of law and the work undertaken by a busy in-house Legal team. You will learn to develop your drafting and communication skills, and will develop a sense of how to balance key risks and business priorities – one of the most important skills for a practising lawyer.

What is the Leadership like for this Role? What is the Structure and Culture of the Team Like?

Your manager will be Tim Evans, our Director and Assistant General Counsel (EMEA) based in the UK. You will work closely with Tim but also with other members of the VMware Legal department in the UK, across EMEA and globally.

VMware’s Legal department is a friendly, close-knit team of professionals based in jurisdictions around the world and led by our General Counsel Amy Olli. We work together as One Team, drawing on each other’s expertise and experience to deliver the best possible outcome for VMware as a business, and you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from senior stakeholders across the team.

Where is this Role Located?

The location of this role is flexible within the United Kingdom. Work will be done from our EMEA headquarters in Staines-upon-Thames some days during a week and other days remotely.
