This is an exciting new opportunity to join the established Policy Team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute as a Policy Officer.

About the role

As Policy Officer you will support and assist the work of the Wellcome Sanger Institute Policy team on projects relating to the Institute’s missions to use genomes and biodata to improve global health.

You will provide support that will include coordinating projects and the opportunity to lead small scale projects, writing policy positions, preparing recommendations and responding to inquiries and consultations, scoping, research, evidence gathering, and event organisation.

A particular focus of the role will be supporting the newly initiated project on Research Culture.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the Policy Team’s work and participate in a range of activities.

This position would be ideally suited for recent graduates and recent MSc or PhD graduates. We welcome applications from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences and those with a strong interest in science and society

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrable interest in, and understanding of, science policy 
  • Demonstrable understanding of the role of science and evidence within policy 
  •  Graduate qualification, preferably in science or equivalent experience 
  •  Excellent written and oral communication and reporting skills 
  •  Good analytical and critical thinking abilities 

Ideal Skills

  • Experience or awareness of ethical and policy issues arising from genomics 
  •  Confident and enthusiastic presenter
