An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Buyer to join the General Merchandise team. Reporting to the Buyer, the main purpose of this role is to drive sales and ensure maximum profitability via front line margin and supplier support across our Cards and Gifts category. This is a perfect opportunity for somebody within an existing Junior Buyer or a high level Assistant Buyer role looking for their next step to become part of an International Retailer.

What you’ll be doing

  • Full Buying responsibility of the Cards and Giftwrap category with regards to sales, margin, income and joint business plans as well as range planning with one key supplier
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with given suppliers to drive sales and total profitability
  • Organise promotional cycles via working with suppliers, marketing, supply chain, display planning and the trading team
  • Generate supplier income through promotions
  • Work with the supply chain team to ensure all lines are delivered on time and in full
  • Undertaking of in depth analysis of sales and margin to understand the trading position
  • Generating new ideas to continue to grow the category
  • Line Management of a Buyers Assistant

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience within a buying role is essential
  • Highly articulate and engaging communication style
  • Ability to interact cross functionally and manage expectations
  • Commercial acumen with excellent numerical and analytical capability 
  • Confident in dealing with and negotiating with suppliers
  • IT literacy including Excel and the ability to pick up bespoke systems quickly
  • Proven track record of delivering Supplier income
  • Experience of line management preferred
