While studying Chemical Engineering I did a placement year working on an oil refinery, in computing. I really enjoyed the application development, so during my final year I picked up more computing modules and taught myself a lot of coding. I applied to LSEG because I wanted to work for a cutting-edge tech platform company.
LSEG is unique – there’s no other institution like it. The rotations offer a great chance to explore before I decide what I ultimately want to settle into.
My first rotation was as a Product Specialist in Business Development, on a team that sells and manages connectivity services, looking at new product offerings, disruptive technologies, and pricing and advertising. It was worthwhile as a tech graduate to be exposed to the business side of things, as we tech graduates can often just be sat in front of a computer all day. This role this helped me to get a broader view of the business, so when back in front of a computer I can better keep the client in mind.
My second rotation is as a Forex Clear Junior QA Engineer. I wanted to try something that would use more of my technical skills. It’s a good mix of the business, client-facing side of things and testing technical elements. I had to learn the whole system front to back and spend a lot of time building automated test scripts, as well as additional projects on the side. It’s a very interesting rotation because we have adopted an agile approach, in which we pull work as a team, and release every 4 weeks.
LSEG has a flat structure. You can see the CEO walking around, and run into quite senior people, who are interested to hear about the graduate program, and happy to talk about their careers.
