We spoke to Larsen who very kindly told us about securing an Internship at IHS Markit, and how he got on during the programme. He is in his final year completing a MSc in Business Administration at Linkoping University. Initially he joined IHS Markit as a Summer Analyst in the Trading Services department at their London City office, which helps clients to navigate the complexities of seaborne trade. They were, however, so impressed with Larsen that he continues to work with them remotely, on a part-time basis, while completing his studies. He has been offered a full time role which he is very excited to take up upon graduating!
Larsen came across IHS Markit online and was extremely impressed by the massive and rapid growth they have achieved. He had been looking into internship opportunities in a finance related role, but wasn’t excited by what the usual firms offered and that many of his classmates were applying to. He was also especially keen to work in London, which is one of the many global cities where IHS Markit is based.
What was really refreshing to Larsen about IHS Markit was that their application process was relatively uncomplicated. After sending them his CV, he was invited for skype interviews: one with his future manager; and another with the head of team based in New York. From the word go the application journey was personal and IHS Markit were interested in getting to know applicants, according to Larsen. IHS Markit accommodated to the fact that he was not studying in the UK and were happy to interview him on skype. This made him feel comfortable and already assimilated into the team before he’d even started. They were also able to transfer Larsen to a department that better suited his interests and skillset mid-way through his application, and this flexibility helped him find a perfect role in the Trading Services department.
Larsen told us that the culture at IHS Markit is welcoming, with a start-up feel and an open-door policy. This was reflected in the work he was doing to promote transparency for finance market clients. He thoroughly enjoyed developing insider knowledge of trade cycles, working with product specialists and consulting clients. Massive congratulations to Larsen for succeeding in this Internship and securing both part-time work and a full time role! He is excited to continue on this upward learning curve.

- Regularly look for and research roles to make sure you stay up to date and informed
- Be open minded – there’s a place for people of any background at IHS Markit! Although an Equity company, it needs people across all sorts of different functions
- Get on a first name basis – getting familiar with the people that are hiring you will really help you to get ahead! The HR department are there to support you throughout your career journey
