About us

The University of Manchester African and Caribbean Society (ACS) is a student-led organisation, that aims to create a platform that celebrates our expansive culture and to encourage growth and unity in a welcoming environment. Our aims for this year are focused around our ethos: 'Enhance. Engage. Empower'. This encompasses the cultivation of strong interpersonal relationships amongst members; the enhancement of cultural awareness and the development of key leadership and teamwork skills. In 2019/20, we hope to further embrace the diversity within our community, using this as the driving force to make our ACS rise together.

Our goals

Enhance:

  • Creating valuable networks for our members.
  • Involvement outside of Manchester.

Engage:

  • Informing members with the issues pertinent to our community.
  • Providing fun and relaxing social events.

Empower:

  • Creating a mentor system.
  • Collaborating with societies within our university.

These three aims are combined with our intention to establish an interactive discussion-based podcast. Its interactive nature stimulates a strong analytical and inquisitive attitude towards current affairs. Overall, this creates a platform to continue to strengthen the links with our society members; extends our scope of influence, impacting the surrounding community and beyond and encourages social cohesion across the student body.
