What would you like your personal legacy to be? What have you achieved that’s unique or how have fulfilled your passion?
My personal legacy would be that I have chased my wildest dreams and turned it into a reality by living a fun, free and fulfilling life where I take every opportunity that comes my way. My drive to one day be a successful self-starter and entrepreneur in the fashion/retail industry motivates me to be the best version of myself. This means taking risks, constant learning and being patient. Pursuing a career in Merchandising allows me to see all aspects of running a business, being a core function in trading and how to be agile in a fast-paced environment. Being 22, I am achieving small goals every day to get to where I want to be at the end of my career which fulfils this passion through my career and personal life choices.
Did your programme help you come to this realisation or give you the tools to achieve this in any way?
I am constantly learning something new every day from the people and environment around me so I would say yes, as I see it as a steppingstone to fulfil my ambitions and career progression.
Who would you say was your inspiration in your field of work when you were a grad / intern / apprentice?
Without a doubt in my mind, it has to be Coco Chanel. She revolutionised women’s fashion in a way that was classy, elegant and at that time out of the norm. She inspires me to challenge the generic mindset, live ambitiously and to inspire other women to live comfortably and freely. Coco once said, “to be irreplaceable one must be different”.
What do you think the M&S of the future looks like? And how do you think tech, digital and data will shape it?
Seeing rapid internal and external tech, digital and data transformation at M&S illustrates that the business is heading in the right direction in order to compete in a fast-paced environment. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit retailers in an unforgivable way and for M&S to overcome such externalities ensures that in the future, the business is able to adapt quickly in order to remain leaders in their field.
What has kept you at M&S since emerging from your programme?
The people and numerous opportunities to grow as an individual! M&S has created an amazing environment for new starters to pursue their interests with the relevant support and assistance along the way. I have met an amazing group of people whilst joining the business that have helped me settle in, is always willing to help and created a wholesome community amidst individual differences.
