Emma from Valpak tells us about her role as an International Account Manager and shares her top tips for anyone looking to follow in her footsteps.
Tell us about your role
My main role as an international account manager is to act as the primary point of contact at Valpak for my clients. Not only am I responsible for submitting data on their behalf, but I am also available if they have any queries about their compliance on a day-to-day basis.
Another large part of my job is conducting research into regulations and schemes in other countries and relaying any information that I find to my teammates. This research not only builds a strong foundation from which we are able to work and present information to prospective accounts, but also allows us to notify our clients of any future legislative changes which may affect their business.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
As I said, every day as an international account manager at Valpak is different. Throughout the day I find myself completing a whole array of tasks from answering emails and presenting to clients to researching international regulations and completing more administrative duties. This variability of my role means that no two days are the same and each provides an opportunity to learn a new skill.
What’s the best thing about your role?
One thing I love about my role is the extent to which my workload varies on a daily basis. Every day contains different tasks and so I find myself continuously learning new information and processes. The emphasis which is placed on research is another thing that I value about my job. This position has provided me with the opportunity to communicate with people from all over the world and I particularly enjoy the challenge and subsequent satisfaction of discovering new information on slightly more obscure countries.
What is your favourite thing about your team?
My favourite thing about my team is the people that I get to spend my days working with. As a relatively new member to the team, I really value that I feel comfortable to ask for help and our daily catchups mean that we always end the days on a positive note and feel ready to start again the following day.
What piece of advice would you give to someone starting in this role?
My main advice to somebody starting a role in IEC would be to throw yourself into it. The sheer volume of information can be a little daunting, but I think that people learn so much so quickly within this role due to structure of learning on the job. The training that you get alongside your daily work is invaluable, but nothing compares to just getting stuck in. The whole team are more than happy to help if you ever have any questions and will certainly guide you through your first few months.
