We are thrilled to have you joining us. Just to clarify, this is an internship experience and is not an actual three-day internship. We wanted to provide as many students the opportunity to take part in an experience that had some of the elements of an internship during this unprecedented time. We’ve been overwhelmed with the response – thousands of students have expressed interest. We are really looking forward to you taking part in this free internship experience.
We've been overwhelmed by the interest and have had thousands of students apply. Each stream will have at least 3,000 participants.
Our vision for Internship Experience UK was to provide any student looking for internship experience this summer to be able to take part. As mentioned above, we've been truly blown away by the interest and have created a programme to provide insight into the sectors from world-leading firms as well as the opportunity to be upskilled and solve a work problem you may face in the sector. That being said, due to the sheer volume of students, 1:1 networking with firms is not a possibility.
To be able to provide an experience for as many students as possible, please note below regarding the format of the three days.
Day one will include a full day of upskilling sessions. You will be listening to world-renowned companies who are experts in the sector and get a comprehensive overview of the sector. Additionally, there will be Bright Network general skills sessions needed for when you enter the world of work. For some of the sessions, there may be an opportunity for Q&A via the chat, but please note we will have thousands of students and not all questions will be answered.
Day two will introduce you to the work sample. Now that you’ve been upskilled, we want you to implement those skills to solve a sector problem that you may face. You’ll then have the opportunity to work individually as well as meet other IEUK participants via a 1:1 video call to discuss the work sample and network. From 12:30-1:30pm, there will be Alumni Office Hours where you hear from grads at our partner companies as well as Bright Network alums. We kindly ask that any questions directed in the chat are general to ensure the largest number of participants can gain insight. Please note, we anticipate this to be very popular and you will not have the opportunity to ask very specific questions due to the sheer number of IEUK participants.
The afternoon will allow you time to work individually as well as with other participants again and we will end the day with a Bright Network skills session.
Day three will allow you time in the morning to finish up your work sample. This will be followed by a Bright Network session running through a good example of how to answer the work sample question. You will then use the 1:1 Networking functionality on Hopin to meet another participant, present your findings as well as provide feedback for the other person’s work. Please note that if you do not submit your feedback for someone else’s work, you won’t be able to receive your Certificate of Completion. We will then have a Bright Network CV and sector advice session along with a close and congratulations.
The schedule will be emailed to you once applications close. Once you've registered for Hopin (our virtual platform for Internship Experience UK), the schedule can be found on the specific sector’s Hopin page or at the bottom of the Reception tab in Hopin. A digital programme will also be provided to you.
Virtual platform (Hopin)
Hopin is the online events platform that we will be using to run Internship Experience UK.
You will receive a unique, personalised Hopin link to the same email you applied for Internship Experience UK with. You will need to click through to complete your Hopin registration and apply for the specific internship experience you have been accepted onto. A step-by-step guide and video can be found found under Resources at the top of this page.
The Hopin registration will only be sent after the application window for your sector has closed. It will be sent to the same email you applied for Internship Experience UK with and will be sent by Friday at 10am before your experience is set to start. Please ensure you've checked your email as well as your junk folder for the details.
If you still cannot find your registration link, please email email@example.com with your full name and the stream you are enquiring about. Please ensure you use the same email that you applied with for IEUK.
Please include your full name, email, and a profile picture. This will help Internship Experience UK feel more like an in-person experience! Also, please add your LinkedIn profile, Twitter handle, and/or website in case you’d like to connect with others during 1:1 networking or after the event.
If you've completed the above, when it’s time for the event, you’ll have received an email with a reminder and link to the experience, please click Enter Event.
Additionally, you will be able to sign into your Hopin account and on the Home page, you will be able to see your upcoming events and click onto Internship Experience UK.
We recommend attending Internship Experience UK through your laptop/PC on Chrome or Firefox. Please avoid Brave, Safari, and Microsoft IE or Edge. We cannot guarantee it will work on mobile. If you’re having trouble, please have a look at this troubleshooting guide and ensure your browser has been updated. You can check this here.
Note: Hopin requires recent versions of Chrome or Firefox. Please note, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge are not compatible with the Hopin platform.
We recommend a minimum of 5mbps download and 2mbps upload. Ideally, we like to see 30mbps download and 10mbps upload or higher for the best quality - test your speed here. If you are having trouble accessing the event, ensure your device is not streaming from any other platforms and restart your computer. Please also review the troubleshooting guide.
For the 1:1 Networking sessions as well as the work sample marking, you will need a camera (if your computer has a camera, that will work great) as well as a microphone. We would suggest headphones to reduce echo during 1:1 sessions. If you do not have a camera, we would highly recommend you partake in the on demand version of Internship Experience UK as you will not be able to complete the programme successfully by marking another participant's work.
During Internship Experience UK
There are a number of networking sessions throughout the three days with both fellow IEUK participants and Bright Network alums. We would recommend business casual for networking sessions.
We would highly suggest a notepad and pen (or another screen open to take notes) as there will be a wealth of information from world-class firms regarding the sector as well as general upskilling seminars from Bright Network.
Simply log back into Hopin and you can navigate to join the session you were watching again. If that doesn’t work, try restarting your computer. If you are still having issues, please review the troubleshooting guide.
What do I do if my audio/video isn't working?
In the following order:
1. Refresh your browser
2. Ensure your browser's permissions are granted to have access to your camera and microphone (in Chrome, type into the URL bar: chrome://settings/content). If you're on a Mac, ensure your browser has permission to record your screen (open your computer's System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Screen Recording > find your browser in the list and check the box)
3. Quit and relaunch your browser
4. Restart your computer
5. Join the event in a different browser (e.g.: switch from Chrome to Firefox)
To watch the seminars, simply navigate to the Seminars (Stage) tab, on the lefthand side of the Hopin screen, sit back, and enjoy. Please note that you won’t be able to turn on your camera or interact face-to-face during these seminars. Some of the seminars will have time set aside for Q&A, so we encourage you to use the chat feature to ask questions. Please note due to the popularity of the live experience, we will not be able to answer all questions.
During day one, you’ll be listening to talks from up to six employers who work in the sector, all on different topics. This will give you a chance to learn from industry experts. For day two’s Alumni Office Hours, you’ll be able to enter booths where employer representatives will be on screen answering questions typed by audience participants. Due to it being an experience with a number of participants involved, there won’t be opportunities for one-on-one networking with the firms. However, we encourage you to be proactive and reach out to those you see online on LinkedIn and other channels.
If there is time for an audience Q&A at the end of a session, a Bright Network team member will select questions posted in the Chat portal and relay them to the speaker. Please note due to the sheer popularity of IEUK, with thousands of students on the stream, not all questions will be answered.
Chat allows attendees to communicate with one another throughout the event. If you write a message in Chat, everyone at the event can see it. Messages in Chat should strictly be about content. If you would like to chat directly with someone, use the People tab. If you would like to ask a question about Hopin, pop into the Bright Network Help Desk, which can be found on the Help desk tab on the left side of the Hopin platform or message Bright Network staff which can be found on the People tab on the right side of the screen. We will answer your question as soon as possible. During the Alumni Office Hours, you will find 2 chat functions that you can toggle between – one is the event chat (broadcasts your message to the whole event), and the other is a session-specific chat. This session-specific chat is where you can submit questions to the alumni and converse with others who are in that specific alumni booth.
Hopin’s approach to online networking is akin to networking roulette. Matching is 100% random. That means you can’t choose who you are connected to and you’ll never meet the same person twice. We’ve had a lot of fun testing this out at Bright Network . We hope you do too.
If you go to the 1:1 Networking tab on the left side of the screen and click Ready, you will begin networking. This means you will join a one-on-one video call - you are paired up with one other IEUK participant at a time via Hopin’s video chat for five minutes. You can exchange contact information by clicking the bright blue Connect button before the timer runs out. If someone shared their contact information with you, you can find it back at the Hopin homepage. You can stop the chat at any time by clicking the Leave button at the top of the chat screen.
Once the time is up (there’s a timer on screen), Hopin automatically moves you on to the next person.
The Alumni Office Hours tab will have both client and Bright Network alumni booths during the second day from 12:30-1:30pm. There will be sector representatives available to speak with you about their experience as well as Bright Network staff to provide guidance on the work sample as well as provide sector advice.
Any questions asked, we would suggest they are general for large audiences as there are a limited number of alums and you want your question to be as useful to as many other students as possible. We would also highly recommend not staying in one booth for the whole duration of the hour. Make the most of this time to get around to as many booths as possible!
We are so thrilled that there has been such huge interest in Internship Experience UK. That being said, the virtual platform can only hold a certain number of participants in each booth. We kindly ask that you find another booth and come back later during the hour.
We are sorry you weren’t able to speak with all of the alums that you wanted to speak to but hopefully you may have been able to connect with them via LinkedIn. We had a huge amount of interest in IEUK and attempted to bring together as many firms and alums during Alumni Office Hours, for further resources, please check out the Bright Network website.
We will provide you with a scoring matrix to peer assess another attendee’s work sample as well as have a session regarding “what good looks like” prior to marking. You will be required to grade their work, provide some written feedback and discuss the work sample and your feedback via 1:1 Networking on Hopin. More details will be provided during the internship experience.
If this FAQ didn’t answer your question, please have a look at this troubleshooting guide. Additionally, you can always pop into the Bright Network Help Desk, which can be found on the Help desk tab on the left side of the Hopin platform or email firstname.lastname@example.org with your question, and we will respond as soon as possible.
In order to successfully complete this internship experience, you are required to attend and participate in the full programme of sessions. Completion of all the sessions and activities will enable you to receive your certificate of completion at the end of the internship experience. Please see our general FAQ for more information.
We want to enable as many students as possible to complete this internship experience. If you have accessibility requirements, please get in touch with the Internship Experience UK team at IEUK@brightnetwork.co.uk and they will be able to support you.
Completing Internship Experience UK
You will need to have completed the work sample, peer-reviewed someone else’s work sample, and submitted your feedback on your peer's work sample via the online form. Only if you have done this will you be able to receive your certificate of completion.
We are aiming to send out certificates of completion within 48 hours of receiving your feedback of a peer’s work. Should you not receive your certificate within one week of completing IEUK, please do let us know by emailing us at email@example.com
Your virtual programme will have a vast majority of the details you will need for the three days. Due to a number of factors in regards to our partner firms, we are unable to provide the slides. That being said, the Bright Network resources will be available on our website. The sessions will be recorded and posted for those that would like to re-watch sessions at a later date.
Absolutely! Due to GDPR, we are unable to provide email addresses of speakers or alumni. However, you can connect with them during the event or find them on LinkedIn to connect.
