In 2021 I was made aware of the UK government’s Kickstarter Programme which instantly interested me because of the types of roles that were available. These were roles that wouldn’t typically be hiring entry level candidates, and this immediately grabbed my attention because I knew that this was a way that I could get broad experience to help me better my career and in best case scenario, secure myself a job permanently. This was always something that I wanted to do, and my lack of experience had previously gotten in the way of this.

The biggest thing I enjoyed about this opportunity was the things I took away from it. I feel I got everything I hoped for, especially experience. I felt that in such a short amount of time I learned so many new skills that will help me in any future career and strengthened the existing ones I have such as technical skills (excel, outlook, teams) , confidence (meeting new people every day, speaking in larger groups than I was use to on touch point calls) and communication skills (communicating within my team and outside my team). This is the biggest thing that someone at an entry level joining AGS can receive and would benefit from as there are not many opportunities like this.

In April, I moved on to a permanent role within AGS in another position. The transition for me has been smooth. I feel that the 6 months prior to this guided me and set me up for success in a permanent role. There are many factors that have made me feel this way such as: the people I had met before – I was aware who people are, what they do and on a bigger scale – the AGS teams.

Technology – I was aware of how many things worked already such as my laptop, the sites I need such as the AGS site, degreed, HR systems and just how calls are set up and attended which helped me in my new permanent role with organising and hosting calls.

Culture & communication – I knew how things worked in AGS, what kind of interaction to expect (all hands calls, get together calls, fun events)

The 6 months made this a little less overwhelming for me because it enabled me to focus on what I was learning my role and I already had knowledge of how to operate in AGS.

I chose to stay with AGS because of what it is like as a company. The people are amazing; everyone I have come across genuinely wants to see me succeed. There is always someone in AGS who is willing to show you and teach you things you want to know, and this is a top factor of why someone should want to both join and stay with AGS.
