Graduate insight into securing an internship with Bloomberg

Created on 3 Jul 2017

Following a spring week at Bloomberg L.P. Business student and Bright Network member Andrea was offered a summer internship before heading back to Royal Holloway for his final year. We recently caught up with Andrea, you can read about his experience here.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

I've always used Bloomberg to keep me updated with financial news and what was happening in the market daily. There was a day last year that I bumped into the career side of Bloomberg.com and came across a new world. I joined for a spring week and now I got selected for a summer internship within the Analytics and Sales division. Exciting!

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part was definitely the wait between the many interviews completed. Bloomberg selects its candidates with a close attention and the result is many interviews and a lot of preparation and research. My favourite part was meeting the personnel and joining the team for the spring week. Receiving an employment offer from such a prestigious organisation is worth all the pain and long hours preparing for it.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I normally relate with as many professional as possible within the organisation I am interviewed from. At Bloomberg, compared to other organisation, it was so easy and relaxed. All the people were willing to help, ready to push me forward and provide unique information. I can say that I was successful in my interviews because I tried to filter all the information to the web through the eyes and experiences of my professional network within Bloomberg.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Tip 1: Keep your eyes on the goal at every time.

Tip 2: Be enthusiastic.

Tip 3: Show that you can easily work along them.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I normally listen to some classical music before entering the building in order to relax, take deep breaths and revise in my mind all what I have to say. You do not need to know everything, and they do no expect you to do so! Be calm, relaxed and show your USPs.
