Andrea is a first year Computer Science and Physics student from Durham University. She secured a place at Carpmaels and Ransford's Technology Insight day in London, through Bright Network.
First, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
“I've always loved Maths, but it was in secondary school that I discovered my love for Computer Science and Physics. I couldn't choose between the 2, and so I decided to continue studying both!”
What was the application process like?
“The application process was very short and simple, and got to the heart of my motivations for attending, which I appreciated.
The recruiting team told me they go through each application themselves, which was really lovely to hear.”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“I am proud that I continue to excel in my field, representing an underrepresented demographic in it. I was proud of the fact that I was one of the only first years at the event."
What have you learnt from going through the process?
“I've learnt to be authentically myself. Carpmaels wants genuine, curious people.”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“My advice would be to be honest and genuine. Patent law isn't something that is commonly taught in schools or at university, so don't pretend to be an expert. Just be curious!”
Tell us about the future. What's next?
“I'd like to learn more about the various paths I could take and Bright Network has definitely helped me with that!”
