Annabel's insights into securing a Consulting Development Analyst role with Accenture

Created on 10 Nov 2021

We recently caught up with Annabel about how she secured a graduate role with Accenture, how she built up her commercial awareness before the interview and her top tips for Bright Network members looking to follow in her footsteps.

What stood out to you about Accenture before securing your role?

I was impressed by Accenture’s genuine commitment to corporate social responsibility. They have an active Inclusion & Diversity community and incorporate sustainability targets for their clients as well as themselves.

What is the culture like at Accenture?

The hierarchy feels very flat – even when interning, people at all levels were happy for me to introduce myself and organise a chat/coffee. Accenture encourages you to build your network, so people are receptive and friendly.

How did you show you have a passion for Accenture at the interview?

I referenced my passions with relevant research. E.g.: when I said I was passionate about Accenture’s commitment to sustainability, I gave examples of the most exciting measures, their impact, and how I wanted to get involved.

How did you build your commercial awareness before the interview?

Research what is relevant to the role, current events impacting that industry and what you find interesting about both. You’ll build commercial awareness, understanding of your role and have more to talk about!

What's been the toughest interview question you've faced and how did you tackle it?

I was asked how I would build a relationship with a person based on a given profile. I tackled this by emphasising how I would look for shared interests/areas of work to naturally build a connection.

How have you adapted to working virtually?

The most difficult part is building relationships with other new starters and your colleagues. Accenture hosts frequent virtual networking events and activities to mitigate this, but you need to take initiative in getting involved.

What has been your working ‘highlight’ thus far?

The continuous opportunities to learn and develop in all sorts of skills/areas. In addition to more formal training, there are always a range of events open to all for different software, skills, industries and social issues.

What top three tips would you give Bright Network members looking to follow in your footsteps?

  1. When in doubt, overprepare
  2. Be a sponge – learn continuously
  3. Always have an ‘elevator pitch’ ready
