Created on 26 Jul 2017

After a successful Vacation Scheme at the firm, Cambridge graduate Christopher has accepted a Training Contract with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Keep reading to find out more about Christopher’s experience of the application process and his pre-interview ritual!

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

On a personal level, I was really attracted to the energy and friendliness of the firm during my vacation scheme! Of course, factors like the intellectual challenge of the work, opportunities for client contact and international exposure, and the in-built Training Contract flexibility were important to me too.

What was the toughest part of the application process and what was your favourite part?

Writing the personal statement at the online application stage was both challenging and exciting - having the chance to introduce oneself in 800 words without having to wade through various sub-questions gives much greater freedom, though I could not help but wonder if I had made use of the 800 words in the best way possible.

My favourite part of the application process was the vacation scheme itself - simply getting to know the firm more in person was a really valuable experience.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was surprised by how the two vacation scheme interviews flowed naturally like a conversation - we ended up talking about the Cold War in my commercial awareness interview!
