Securing a Spring week placement with Barclays - Top tips from Chiara

Created on 11 Jul 2017

Oxford student Chiara was thrilled to be accepted onto the Spring Week programme at the banking firm Barclays, aided by the helpful advice on the Bright Network website. Whilst currently studying biomedical science, we chatted with Chiara to discuss how she found the whole experience.

Why did you choose Barclays?

Barclays is one of the most progressive firms in the financial industry and I'm excited to be learning more about the various Front Office roles available at Barclays as well as speaking to current employees about what life is like at the firm.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part of the application process was the online interview as I was not used to the process and it felt unnatural not having another person to answer to. My favourite part involved the research for the various roles and learning what I was interested in and what to apply to.

Was there anything in the process that surpised you?

I was surprised by how quick and efficient the application process was. I received my offer within about 2 weeks whereas it took 3 months for me to hear back from other companies.

What advice would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Don't underestimate what you are capable of and let it prevent you from applying to something you feel like you would enjoy.

Do you have a lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

I'm not very superstitious so i just go over practise interview questions.
