Created on 17 Oct 2017

Economics undergraduate attended the Bright Network Festival 2017 to collect her complementary bottle of champagne, and to tell us about her experience as a Spring Week Intern at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Emily kindly shared her top tips for other Bright Network members below.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

I wanted to gain exposure in several areas of investment banking. The spring week at BAML gave me the opportunity to network with individuals from several areas at BAML. I specifically looked at Sales & Trading and Corporate Treasury.

What was the toughest part of the application process and what was your favourite part?

The toughest part of the application process was deciding which areas I wanted to explore further within the bank. I would recommend attending networking events in order to gain a greater understanding of each role before applying in order to make the most of the internship.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was kept well informed about my application throughout the process. During the internship everyone was very happy to take time out to explain their roles and I met lots of like-minded individuals who I still speak with today.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

1. Research the company beforehand.

2. Take time to read the Financial Times

3. Ask lots of questions during the internship.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

A big bowl of Weetabix!
