Created on 13 Mar 2018

Whilst studying Materials Science in her penultimate year at Oxford, Gemma has successfully applied for an exciting internship at Strategy&. Find out how she did it below.

Why did you choose PwC and this role in particular?

I chose this role at PwC as the challenging style of the work and the opportunity to use and develop my skills greatly appealed to me. PwC particularly appealed to me after meeting the people there and learning about some of the interesting work that they have done.

What was the hardest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The hardest part of the application process was the first round interview, however PwC were very informative about what was involved in the process and made preparation very accessible. My favourite part was the final round interview as I experienced some very interesting discussions with friendly people that stimulated my enthusiasm for the role further.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was pleased by how much the interviewers wanted to get to know you during the interview and had read my CV in advance and really planned what they wanted to discuss with me. This stimulated some in depth discussions and I felt I was able to really talk about my experiences.

Do you have three top tips for BN members looking to follow in your footsteps?

I would recommend really being yourself at the interview stage as well as being enthusiastic in your cover letters. Finally asking questions in interviews can lead to a really dynamic and interesting discussions about a really exciting field.

What was the toughest question you faced at interview?

I think that the most challenging part was working with information given to me in the interview as this was the hardest to prepare for and the most nerve-racking, however once working with the information I found it quite enjoyable and could immerse myself in the situation.
