Emily, an Oxford graduate with a degree in Economics, has just been accepted onto the graduate scheme at Alpha FMC. Here she tells us what made her choose Alpha as the next step in her career.
Follow your gut instinct
That’s what I’d tell anyone applying for a graduate role. Instinct brought me to Alpha FMC – a company that wasn’t even on my list of places to apply.
A role that spoke to me
Alpha is a consulting company to the wealth and asset management industry. When I saw the graduate scheme on a Bright Network email the role caught my attention right away. I thought it combined the best elements of consultancy – the variety and the responsibility – with the opportunity to work in and learn more about the investment industry.
The more I read, the more I knew it was the right place for me.
Meeting people, making connections
During the interview process, my first impression got stronger. I talked to as many people as possible. Every person I met at Alpha taught me more about the company and what my life there would be like. The kind of people that worked there that confirmed it for me. I could be myself there. I’d fit in.
Getting through the interviews
I’m not saying everything went smoothly. I would have wanted to perform better in my phone interview – I find it hard to connect with people over the phone and don't think I communicate enough. I was lucky to get through to the assessment day and have more of an opportunity to show what I can do.
The toughest part was my final interview. Before I left the house I got a kiss from my husband and felt full of confidence. I came home feeling like I'd just survived a boxing match. But as it turned out, they had an instinct about me too. I got the role.
Now I can’t wait to get started. Alpha has offered me a fantastic opportunity. I know in my gut that this is exactly where I should be.
