Securing a marketing graduate role at Merkle | Periscopix - Top tips from Leo

Created on 16 May 2017

Leo first met people from Merkle | Periscopix by visiting their offices as part of an event they held in partnership with Bright Network. He has just secured a Graduate Role as a PPC Search Account Manager with them. We caught up with him to ask about his experiences.

Why did you choose to apply to be a PPC Search Account Manager at Merkle | Periscopix?

I chose Merkle | Periscopix for quite a few different reasons, but perhaps the most important factor was the people who work there. I met their employees through a Bright Network Event, and that was a great opportunity to speak to people from across the business there and get a sense of the general office vibe there. We were also provided with really comprehensive insights into each of the different roles they're recruiting for, so I had a much clearer idea of which one sounded most suited to my skills and personality. As for the company itself, I liked the fact they're very focused on being the best at what they do, as opposed to trying to branch out into every area. Their office is in a great location too, with a very relaxed atmosphere but also a very clear sense of purpose.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part of the application process was unsurprisingly the final stage, as it required me to present on a subject I had no experience in yet, and was followed by some quite tough questions. At the same time, it still felt rewarding as it taught me even more about the area of advertising I was applying for, and further confirmed in my mind that it was the right role for me.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I was definitely surprised by the group task we were asked to undertake as part of the application process, but it was still enjoyable and a great way to get to know some of the people I could be working alongside in future!

Any advice for your fellow Bright Network members?

I do think it’s important to start your search early, which is where the Bright Network Event helped me. Also, perfect your CV, as it’s the first contact you’ll have with employers.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

Listening to my gym playlist (helps with the nerves!)
