Graduate insight into securing a Finance internship with Smiths Group PLC

Created on 22 Jun 2017

Pawangeet just secured a Finance Internship at Smiths Group PLC after hearing about the role in a Bright Network email. She took time out from studying at the University of Warwick to let us know about her experiences during the application.

Why did you choose a finance internship at Smiths Group PLC?

Smiths Group have always appealed to me, as a large company whose values reflect my own. As the firm’s role as a market leader in many industries attracted me to apply for the role of Finance Intern. I am excited to learn about many industries through interning in the department that is ideal for me, and to be working on the sort of products that will be used by millions of people!

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?:

The toughest part was preparing for the assessment day which I had to do whilst working for my second year University exams. Although this wasn’t great timing it seemed to work out well in the end. My favourite part was the actual assessment day where I met the lovely employees of Smiths Group and became friends with the other interviewees. It was really interesting to meet other potential employees of Smiths Group at such an early stage, and they were all really friendly.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?:

I was surprised by the amount of preparation required for the assessment day. It included a 10 minute presentation, learning a new skill, as well as the preparation for the interview.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?:

I think it’s really important to organise your time well, be aware of what is required early on and be confident on the day.
