Racheal is an Accounting and Finance graduate from Birmingham City University. She secured a Finance Graduate position at Equans through Bright Network.
First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself?
“I’m someone who enjoys pushing themselves and stretching the limit. I’m someone who really enjoys learning – I find it very rewarding!
My motivation for going into the finance sector was the continuous learning aspect. There will always be something to learn, from different processes to software and systems, so I know I won’t ever be bored.”
What motivated you to apply for your role?
“I chose this specific company because they’re a leader within the energy services industry. I also really resonate with their mission to contribute to a low carbon world and I really love how they have different networks of young people, women and ethnic minorities. Everybody has a place at Equans and everyone is so welcoming which is lovely.”
What was the application process like?
“The application process was very smooth. It started off with me applying via Bright Network and then I had an initial interview with the lovely HR manager. She was amazing and I was selected for the assessment centre, which was so relaxed and everyone involved was so warm and welcoming.”
What are you most proud of about your journey?
“Challenges I faced are quite common with students, I think! There’s a lot of rejections from different employers of companies and sometimes with no feedback it’s quite hard to reflect and know what you did wrong and how to improve going forward.
I kept seeking feedback from the careers team at my uni, my friends and kept trusting that I would be selected by the right company and I’m so happy to now be at Equans.”
How did Bright Network help you secure your role?
“I initially saw the role on Bright Network and it also appeared in the jobs they sent me via email.
I went ahead and applied and from there I had an interview, an assessment centre and I was given the role!
The great thing about Bright Network is that all the information about the company and everything that will help you during the interview is in the job description, which is so helpful.”
What have you learned from going through the process?
“I learned that you need to be resilient and that you can never be over prepared!”
What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
“What I’d do differently is not take rejection so personally, which I know can be really difficult. The best advice I received is just keep going and don’t stop!
The resources that helped me the most were my careers team at university, Bright Network and graduate job sites.”
