Rosy's success story: Securing Insight Experience at NatWest

Created on 29 Aug 2024

Rosy is a Classics student at the University of Edinburgh. She secured Women's Insight Experience at NatWest for Digital Transformation through Bright Network.

First, we’d love for you to tell us a little bit about yourself.

“When I was growing up, I wanted to be a marine biologist but that changed when I started my A-Levels, as my love for Classics grew stronger.

Because of my love for Classics, I’ve studied lots of ancient law cases and that has kickstarted my desire to move towards a degree in Law, as I was truly inspired by the works of Cicero!”

What motivated you to apply for your role?

“NatWest is a prestigious place to work and I’d heard lots of good things about their experiences. I was attracted to these experiences as it’s close to home and completely different to anything I’d heard about before.

I’m very open to my career choices and thought doing something in the digital sphere would be very useful.”

What was the application process like?

“There were three parts of the application process. Firstly, a situation test where I had to pick options related to how I’d behave in a corporate scenario. Then there was a quick 30-minute numerical and problem-solving assessment which was quite challenging. And then finally, a competence interview.”

What have you learned from going through the process?

“I’ve learnt that I should be more confident in my abilities and to also not shut myself off to opportunities that I’m not well studied in.”

How did Bright Network help you secure your role?

“I found out about the Insight Experience through Bright Network’s ‘Find a Job’ sector on their website. Using the CV skills, I learnt during the Bright Network Women in Leadership Event I attended in 2023, I was able to secure a spot.”

What are you most proud of about your journey?

“I have found it quite difficult to find work experience and was not sure if I was the right fit for this experience in digital transformation. However, I trusted my abilities and went for the job anyway, which paid off!”

What are your tips for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

“I would recommend practicing for any numerical questions! I haven’t studied maths in a while, and it didn’t come back quite as naturally as I would have hoped.

Also, research the topic of AI and the digital age to really ace the questions!”

Tell us about the future. What’s next?

“After I complete this experience, I still have two more years of university left, which means I’ll be looking for more work experience and internships, hopefully through NatWest as well!”
