Graduate insight into securing a role as a Tax Analyst at Deloitte

Created on 20 Oct 2017

James has just secured a graduate role at Deloitte as a Tax Analyst, which will start in September 2018 following his graduation from Durham, where he studies Philosophy. He came by to have a chat with us at the Bright Network Festival 2017, and to collect his bottle of champagne. He was kind enough to share a few of his thoughts about his application.

Why did you choose the tax analyst role at Deloitte?

I really liked the ethos at Deloitte, as well as the fact that it is a market leader. I chose tax because I was more interested in solving complex problems and looking forwards, as opposed to audit which I saw as looking backwards.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

The toughest part was the assessment centre, but also definitely the most fun! It allows you to show off what you’re good at.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

Not really, the whole process was pretty transparent.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Talk to people who have already done it, don't overprepare and make sure you're interested!

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

Don't do any work on the day of the interview.
