Graduate insight into securing a Summer internship with BNP Paribas

Created on 20 Oct 2017

George completed a summer internship with BNP Paribas in 2017, before his final year of Accounting and Finance and Business Management at Loughborough University. He stopped by the Champagne Collection stand at the Bright Network Festival to collect his champagne and tell us a bit about the application process.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

It was a firm that is expanding its UK presence despite Brexit and involved a lot of company research.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

Answering a range of questions during the interview, with no prior info about the interview. There were motivational questions, competency based questions, technical questions and finally a case study.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

It surprised me that there was no assessment centre – most of the other firms I have researched seem to have these.

What top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Firstly, it’s important to think about why you have a genuine interest in finance. Next, make sure you come across as personable in the interview and have an understanding of the investment bank and your role. Finally, make sure they remember your interview by being able to talk about something unique such as investments you have made.
