Aston University graduate Richard has secured a new role with Capgemini as a SAP Applications Consultant. We caught up with Richard to hear all about his experience.
Why did you choose this firm and this role?
My main interest revolves around business strategies, specifically on the effect of technology on a firm’s strategy. I felt that becoming a SAP Application Consultant aligned with my interest, whilst also giving me exposure to work with SAP software that I think will be continue to be important after my graduate scheme. I chose Capgemini because I feel the company is very committed towards my self-development. Their company culture is something that really stood out to me too, as well as their way of working through the Collaborative Business Experience, which I think is the best way to work with clients in a consultancy industry.
What was the toughest part of the application process and what was your favourite part?
The toughest part of the application process was also my favourite part of the process. The assessment centre was tough because I was given the challenge of creating a 5-minute presentation. I felt that this was a tough time limit, in which I had to condense the information that I wanted to communicate to the assessor. However, the employees and fellow candidates that I met made the assessment centre an enjoyable experience. Everyone was friendly and, even though we were being assessed, we were encouraged to be ourselves and just have fun.
Were you surprised by anything in the process?
I was surprised by how fun the assessment centre was. I had been to many assessment centres prior to attending Capgemini’s assessment centre, and whilst many companies claim that their assessment centre is fun, Capgemini really meant it when they said that their assessment centre was fun! I was also surprised by how the assessors and employees treated me - they treated me as an equal and communicated with me like a fellow colleague.
