Securing a Training Contract with Clifford Chance - Top tips from Micah, a Future Trainee Solicitor

Created on 17 Aug 2017

Micah is studying Law at the University of Nottingham and, after a Successful Springboard Scheme, has secured a Training Contract with Clifford Chance. Micah caught up with us to tell us all about his experience with the Magic Circle firm.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

Clifford Chance is a firm that not only attracts the most high profile clients, but it is also one with great international capacity. Further, the firm is actively committed to promoting diversity, as well as embracing innovation.

What was the toughest part of the application process and what was your favourite part?

The toughest part of the application process was undoubtedly the assessment day for the training contract. Rather surprisingly, this was also the highlight of the process for me. I was able to utilise my insight into the firm, which I had gained during the Springboard Scheme, as well as build a rapport with partners at the firm.

Were you surprised by anything in the application process?

I was most surprised by the fact that we were not assessed during the Springboard Scheme. This was beneficial, as it meant that there wasn’t a cut-throat atmosphere and all candidates were able to enjoy their time at Clifford Chance, whilst also being exposed to the inner workings of the firm.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

1) Make sure you know the firm or company you are applying to.

2) Always play to your strengths.

3) Utilise all of the contacts that you have within the firm or company.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

The day before an interview, I always stop preparing early to avoid cramming and ensure I get a good nights sleep to avoid any stress or nervousness
