Simon first heard of a Technology Summer Internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch through the Bright Network website. He told us about the application process for the role, which starts in June 2018.
Why did you choose a Technology Summer Internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch?
When I first decided to go for technology within banking I wanted to look for a bank that aligned with my values. After extensive research and networking I found that BAML was the best fit for my values - which were the promotion of both diversity and teamwork. I completed a spring week with BAML, and I was then offered a place on the Summer Internship programme for 2018. I chose technology because of my passion for the fast-paced industry. Banking is forever changing markets – so it was the perfect fit for me.
What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?
The toughest part was the assessment centre and the presentation. I was worried about not projecting my answer well enough but after receiving feedback, found out that I had seemed confident and clear with my reasoning. My favourite was the competency interview as I could successfully and easily project my interests and passion for technology.
Were you surprised by anything in the process?
I was surprised by how smooth the process was and how comfortable I felt being surrounded by students from such top universities.
What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?
Believe in your ability, know your strengths, and never compare yourself to others.
What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?
The morning before the assessment centre I would practice my elevator pitch in front of the mirror to build confidence.
