Graduate insight into securing a Spring internship with the Financial Conduct Authority

Created on 5 Jul 2017

Bright Network member and Cardiff student Esther discusses her experience of spring week at the FCA which she discovered via the Bright Network website.

Why did you choose this firm and this role?

I discovered the FCA via the BrightNetwork website and I was amazed by the meaning job they do. I did this Spring Week during my first year when I was at the stage of discovering various industries to seek a path for my future career and this was an amazing opportunity.

What was the toughest part of the application process? And your favourite part?

I think the toughest part was the application form. It asked a few questions which are very firm-specific, which led to in-depth research about the firm. My favorite part is the Spring Week itself! It was well-organised and Spring Interns were able to meet people across different departments and positions to gain a real insight.

Were you surprised by anything in the process?

I would not say so, the process is fairly straight forward. It consists of the initial application form and followed by a telephone interview. I would say this could be a good start for first-year students.

What three top tips would you give your fellow Bright Network members?

Tip 1: Start early and you'd be at a better position.

Tip 2: Network and keep in touch, people are friendly.

Tip 3: Be open minded about what's in store for you.

What's your lucky charm or pre-interview ritual?

Do research about the interview!
