Yvonne was initially attracted to Accenture's Consulting Internship after attending Bright Network's Women in Leadership Event in 2016, where she was able to talk to representatives from Accenture about how a role at Accenture might suit her. She recently completed the internship, and kindly spared some time before she goes back to her final year of Law at KCL to tell us about her role.
What attracted you initially to the internship?
I first came across Accenture's internship programmes and graduate schemes when I attended Bright Network's Women in Leadership event. It was here that I learned of the company's future forward vision and achievements for diversity and inclusion. Combined with the fact that Accenture is at the forefront for driving technological innovation and implementing these changes within industries was an easy decision for me to apply for the Consulting internship.
As I am studying law at university, I was drawn to consulting as a potential non-law career after graduation. With Accenture working across so many different industries for some of the largest clients in today's marketplace. I thought the internship would be a good opportunity to explore how real business challenges can be solved with the emerging use of technology.
Can you explain a bit more about exactly what your role entailed?
I was assigned to the Cloud First practice, where Accenture helps its clients migrate to the Cloud. I was fortunate enough to be working on a project for an industry leader in Life Sciences. Your role as an Analyst will differ depending on the project that you are placed on.
What did you learn from it?
I definitely learned a lot! I was very fortunate to have attended a very informative Excel course that Accenture offers to their new Analysts and definitely put those skills to good use on the project. The project opened up a lot of opportunities to learn how to use different types of applications.
I also learned a lot about Accenture as a company. It is definitely a very collaborative and friendly place to work and I would highly recommend applying to their Internship, Placement or Graduate Roles. I have met so many supportive colleagues during my time at the company and look forward to crossing paths with them again in the future.
Has it influenced your thinking on what career path you might want to pursue in the future?
Very much so! I now have a better insight into what a career in Consulting entails and hopefully will enable me to see what that path holds when I graduate next year.
Have you got some top tips for members looking to follow in your footsteps?
Apply! There were many highlights during my internship at Accenture but I definitely had an enjoyable time and met many great people. It's a great opportunity to take part in as we ride the wave into a more technologically advanced future.
Go to campus events and recruitment fairs (Bright Network Events are a great start!) to meet representatives and current employees. Everyone I have met has been incredibly open and willing to talk about why they decided to work at Accenture. Be sure to convey your own enthusiasm when applying and checking that application one extra time will be worth it!
