Summary of role

My role as an executive involves supporting the deal team on a wide range of transactions such as business disposals, acquisitions, management buy-outs and fundraising; these typically range between £10m - £50m.

My role is exciting and fast paced, often with no two days the same. I have been given the opportunity to undertake a number of tasks such as researching existing clients, preparing key deal documentation like pitch documents and information memoranda, and assisting the deal team in marketing and negotiating a transaction up until completion. Having transitioned from analyst to executive after my year-long placement within the M&A team, I am now well equipped to assume greater responsibility within the team.

As one of the most active corporate finance advisors in the UK, my role within the M&A team has ensured that I have been able to work on a wide range of transactions across a number of different sectors - including financial serviceshealthcare and manufacturing.

What’s been the highlight so far?

A key highlight for me has been the wide variety of businesses and entrepreneurs from a broad range of sectors that I have been able to meet and work with on transactions. The level of knowledge that I obtain of a business, its competitors and sector - often within a short space of time - is a particular highlight. I am always interested in reading and discovering more information on this that I have not yet gained exposure to.

What’s been your biggest challenge so far?

A key challenge that I have faced has been juggling both my studies and work commitments, particularly when there is a busy period or upcoming deadline. However effective time management skills, along with motivation from my peers, has made this process far easier than I previously envisaged.

What’s surprised you most about working at RSM?

The most surprising element of my time at RSM thus far has been the level of responsibility assigned to me. During the course of the day, I am frequently liaising with clients, potential buyers and intermediaries as part of the transaction process. RSM have been extremely supportive in aiding my professional development and I have been guided tremendously by managers and partners who are always available to explain any queries that I may have.

What’s next for you at RSM?

I’m aiming to continue working towards obtaining my ACA qualification, whilst also continuing to obtain exposure to a broad range of transactions across a number of sectors.

What’s your top tip for someone looking to apply to RSM?

Tenacity – work is challenging but you are rewarded. Remain tenacious and RSM is an organisation full of opportunities for those who consistently prove themselves.
