Book open Reading time: 3 mins

Meet Dario Di Geronimo, from Naples. He works in Global Customer Support at Bloomberg in London.

Bloomberg’s Italian, Spanish and Portuguese speaking employees in the London office work with a variety of clients across financial services, alongside colleagues based in regional hubs in Milan, Madrid and Lisbon and extending to clients in Lugano, Andorra and Gibraltar. Being to engage with clients in their native language is of critical importance to Bloomberg.

Here, Dario shares what he loves about living in London, how he uses his language skills at work, and what sets the Bloomberg culture apart.

Dario

What do you like most about London?

London has always been appealing to me, ever since I was a student in Italy, because it is an extremely multicultural city. It allows you to see things from several different perspectives.. You can learn new languages and new cultures. London is probably one of the largest European and world capitals and always offers something exciting. You never get bored.

In London there is a great open-mindedness, so it is very easy to interact with and get to know new people, and this allows exchange of ideas and therefore growth.

Why did you decide to work at Bloomberg in London?

I discovered Bloomberg when I was at university. We had the Bloomberg Terminal in the classroom, so I became interested in the company and did some research. What struck me the most was Bloomberg’s culture, because it is dedicated to innovation and networking, encouraging people to get to know each other in order to create new ideas.

The entire London building has been structured so that employees can meet, exchange ideas, and get to know each other. I have been here for a year and a half, and have met so many interesting people from all over the world.

Did you study in London, or did you study in Italy and then relocate here?

Yes, I studied both in Italy and the United Kingdom. As soon as I finished my master’s, I applied for a role at Bloomberg; Bloomberg helped me a lot through the process of moving to the UK.

What do you like best about your role? How would you describe the impact you have on both customers and others on your team?

In Global Customer Support, we work with customers from all over the world, from Asia to America, to the Middle East and the whole of Europe. If you walk on our floor, you can hear so many different languages spoken by colleagues. We offer this service in more than 15 different languages. It’s also nice for me to work with Italian clients because it brings me a little closer to my home.

When I started my career in Customer Support, I had the opportunity to talk to many people who deal with data analysis, programming, engineers, and sales. I understood the true value of Bloomberg and the impact that the company has in the financial system.

What makes Bloomberg unique is this opportunity to grow not only vertically but also horizontally, which is something that not all companies offer you. This is important because it also allows you to find out who you are and what you like, which is what will ultimately make you happy during your professional experience. Personally, I see myself growing in a career oriented to customer relationships.

How does working at Bloomberg make you feel like yourself?

I like working at Bloomberg because I have great personal and professional relationships. There are lots of opportunities to talk to managers who are willing to listen and talk through questions. In addition, the company allows all employees to have a great balance between social life and work.

In my role, what gives me the greatest satisfaction is working with new employees. It’s always an enormous pleasure to see new starters excel, thanks to the classes and the opportunities the company provides.
