Would you like to train to be a chartered accountant in an accountancy practice dedicated to working with diverse and inspiring charity clients?

Godfrey Wilson is an award-winning charity-specialist practice in Bristol. We are an ethical and environmentally conscious employer, voted #1 for Charity Expertise in the Charity Finance Magazine 2023 audit survey and shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2022 Accounting Excellence Awards. Having built a reputation as a leading provider of audit and accountancy services to small and medium-sized charities, we now work with over 250 charities in Bristol and nationally.

We're currently looking for 4 people to join our team as charity-specialist Trainee Auditors on a 3-year work-study apprenticeship to become ACA-qualified.

About you

A good academic record - studying for the ACA qualification is challenging.

We are looking for candidates with a good degree (2:1 or above), solid A-level results and a minimum of a Grade B/Grade 6 in GCSE Maths and English.

A passion for charities is essential – it runs through everything we do. At Godfrey Wilson, an audit isn’t just about ticking boxes, it’s about using your skills to make a difference: strengthening governance, identifying efficiencies and challenging embedded practices. Your work will help our charity clients to grow and evolve and ultimately to become more effective.

You need excellent attention to detail, be eager to learn, progress and take on responsibility and be a great problem solver.

You will be in a client-facing role, so delivering a great client experience through exceptional written and verbal communication is key.

What we offer you

You will be joining a firm that values and rewards its people.

  • £24,500 salary (increasing every year and to £40k+ on qualification)
  • Full ACA study package (paid course fees, exams, study leave) - structured as a Level 7 apprenticeship, and equivalent to a masters degree
  • Values-driven firm working in the charity sector
  • Supportive and friendly team
  • Excellent career progression and opportunities
  • Pension scheme with 3% employer contribution
  • 35-hour week
  • Flexible working policy
  • Discretionary performance bonus
  • Payment of professional membership subscriptions

If you don’t meet our minimum standards but you can demonstrate your ability to succeed, you are encouraged to apply, setting out any relevant circumstances in your cover letter.

Please note we will be reviewing and progressing applications as they are received ahead of the closing date for this vacancy.
