Why did you decide to apply for a role at Bloomberg in London?

I studied Economics & Statistics in Delhi and after both the Summer Insight Week and Global Data Summer Internship at the Bloomberg London office, I knew that this was the place I wanted to work! I absolutely loved the culture, the office and the people, and applying for a role at Bloomberg in London was a no-brainer.

Bloomberg supported me through every step of my relocation process from Kolkata to London – whether it was the logistics of the visa application, finances, or mental preparation. Bloomberg’s immigration team handled the entire process smoothly from start to finish. Bloomberg also ensured that relocation did not overburden me financially, through their visa sponsorship and relocation support. My team leader during the summer internship and the HR team were so supportive during the entire relocation process – they shared valuable advice related to my shift to London and recommendations on where I could stay!

What do you most enjoy about your role in London?

A role in London offers immense exposure to a diverse group of people and a multitude of events and learning opportunities. These opportunities exist in other cities too of course, but a role in London makes it so much easier to access them – I can just walk up to the desk of someone from a completely different background and department and strike up a conversation. It’s also easy to attend industry seminars and networking events being held across London, as it’s a global finance hub. Working in one of the most admired and sustainable office buildings in the world is definitely another draw of Bloomberg in London.

Tell us about your relocation story. How did Bloomberg support you?

Prior to my getting my offer at Bloomberg, I had lived in Nigeria pretty much all my life. This was a new and exciting role, and I was going to be working in a brand-new city!

Bloomberg was extremely supportive throughout my relocation journey. The entire process would have been much more difficult without that support. Everything was so seamless, from the visa application process to advice around finding a place to live. I’ve been in London a few months now and can say I’m all settled in. It’s been great!

What do you most enjoy about your role in London?

The office is really cool! Getting to physically collaborate with my team and meet people at the office has been great. And since I’m in a new city, there’s so much to explore.

Tell us about your relocation story. How did Bloomberg support you?

Relocating from Korea to Hong Kong during the pandemic was not the most ideal time to do so. Nevertheless, Bloomberg supported me through all the uncertainties so that I could settle into Hong Kong. I joined Bloomberg Analytics Hong Kong in 2021 July right after graduating from university in Korea.

I’m grateful that my team leader and colleagues were very helpful in giving advice and offering help when I was looking for housing.

Why did you decide to apply for a role at Bloomberg?

I first got a glimpse of Bloomberg Analytics in 2019 when I joined Bloomberg Academy (a week-long program where university students get to visit the Hong Kong office, learn about different teams, and conduct projects after receiving basic trainings on the Terminal). The thing that really caught my eye was the effort the company put in to provide the best learning experience for the students joining the program. I was energized by the intensive training I went through when I was doing my internship at Bloomberg Analytics & Sales the following year. However, I was most surprised at how much I learned during only one month. The steep learning curve I experienced made me excited for how much I would learn when I actually join the team.

I was also intrigued by the culture within Bloomberg — we were encouraged to ask questions and ask for help during the internship. Whenever we reached out to people, whether it was for a short catch up or advice on a project, everyone was eager to help out and were very supportive. Before, I was afraid to ask questions, but at Bloomberg I became more confident. I enjoyed this open culture and it was huge driver when I decided to join the team.

From Tokyo to Hong Kong

Tell us about your relocation story. How did Bloomberg support you?

I relocated from the Tokyo office to Hong Kong office in July 2017, and back to Tokyo again in 2020. I moved to Hong Kong to join Core Analytics, and the company supported me throughout the entire process, which I am very grateful for.

Why did you decide to apply for a role at Bloomberg?

Recruiters came to my university to promote Bloomberg. At first I was unsure of the role I was interested in. However, I felt it was a place I could see myself in as mobility and diverse career path were clearly a part of the company’s identity.

Since I joined, I wanted to work in a different office someday. The path I envisioned was to join Core Analytics and move into a Sales role in the future. While I was speaking with colleagues and managers about my interests, I was approached by HR and told that they were looking for a Japanese speaker in Hong Kong Analytics. The timing was just right and I decided to apply for the role.
