An insight into life as a Liberty Global Finance Graduate.

We spoke with Jack, a Liberty Global Finance Graduate, to understand what his time on the scheme has looked like so far and learn about some of his key moments.

Tell us about your role and what a regular day as a Finance Graduate looks like

Within my current role on the Finance Graduate Scheme, I help maintain, run and distribute the Capital Allocation Reporting framework, Capital Allocation Report and end-to-end functional area performance monitoring. I plan Liberty Global’s budget submission by all the operating companies and produce flash reports. I also monitor all the data for quality and consistence.

What do you enjoy about working at Liberty Global?

Liberty Global is a forward-looking company, this is what initially attracted me to them. It was an exciting time to join the business as it moves away from the traditional. I like Liberty Global for their acceptance of employees from all backgrounds, offering a place that makes them feel at home in the company. The key aspect that makes them stand out is that there is so much investment in many different businesses.

What are some key moments from your time at Liberty Global?

My key highlight from working in Liberty Global is that I was given a very big project on one of my first days. It wasn’t just the project itself that stood out, but also the trust I was given from day one. My first project was investigating new technology vendors within the automation and robotics area and whittling initial research of 40 vendors down to three key vendors, who are now used within the automation space in the Shared Service Centre.

What do you enjoy about your job and where would you like to progress?

I enjoy the data understanding and knowledge of the job, which I hope to be able to use in the future to judge management decisions. In the future, I would like to progress into a management position as I enjoy seeing the people I have helped succeed.

Do you have any tips for someone applying to the Finance Graduate scheme?

The application was pretty straight forward with an initial application leading to an assessment centre and getting an answer on my application within three days.

You should be proactive. Make sure you understand the business and portray who you are as a person, not what you think they’re looking for.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your time with Liberty Global?

It has been a fantastic opportunity thus far. I am excited to see where my career with Liberty Global will go, how I will progress through the company hierarchy and to see how far I can push myself within a truly great company.

Our Finance Graduate Scheme is open for applications right now. If you want to follow in Jack’s footsteps, make sure you submit your application soon
