Jenny | Life as a Content Creator at Quadmark

Book open Reading time: 3 mins

Jenny is a content creator at Quadmark. Hear more about her journey below.

Jenny studied at Open University and has a degree in Classical Studies but her career has been primarily computer based. From SEO and accessibility audits to ghost writing and content creation. The best part of every day for Jenny is knowing she'll get to create or experience something new.

Why did you join Quadmark?

I initially applied to Quadmark because I liked their ethos and thought the team sounded like fun.

Full disclosure, I joined Quadmark because my wife said I should... I had a flurry of interviews early in 2021 and a couple of competing offers. Going purely by the numbers I wasn’t sure which to accept until my wife pointed out that when I talked about the offers I smiled more when I talked about Quadmark. I am happy to say she was absolutely right.

The work I do at Quadmark is always engaging and honestly, it’s good fun. I’m in a team of brilliantly talented creators and all round good folks. So if you ask me “Why Quadmark?” my answer is simple, I’m just happier here.

What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?

I’m not alone. I’ve had a few remote roles now and they’ve all been kind of lonely, that’s not the case at Quadmark. It’s true we don’t get to meet up everyday but our online culture is such fun that when you do finally meet your colleagues, it’s more like catching up with friends than meeting someone for the first time. Talk, chat, listen, just ping a GIF. We’re a friendly bunch and we love new people.

What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?

We don’t use the word ‘normal’ at Quadmark. You can have an average day but it’ll still have some element of surprise, creation, innovation, or fun in it. Using the word ‘normal’ implies that there’s an ‘abnormal’ side to our work too and that’s not the case. I have yet to meet a Quadmarker who can’t take the unexpected in their stride. An average day has at least one surprise and no matter how big or little it is, we’re ready because we very rarely have to take it on alone, collaboration is a big part of an average day too. An average day at Quadmark is a lot of fun.

What is the culture like?

If you’re ever bored in Quadmark it’s because you aren’t talking to enough Quadmarkers. There’s always a project, there’s always a game, there’s always a chat going, there’s always more to do. With all that said, there’s always support as well. The Quadmark culture is inclusive, immersive, and immensely enjoyable.

How important is diversity/inclusion/accessibility to you and what is Quadmark doing in this space?

Quadmark is the most accessible workplace I’ve ever been part of. Looking back on my career up to Quadmark it’s depressing to think how happy I was just getting by at work. I don’t just get by now, I thrive. Quadmarkers take inclusion seriously, so when I asked if I could release helpful info, company wide, to celebrate Deaf Awareness Week, they said yes. The response was overwhelmingly positive and over a year later, my colleagues still remember those hints and tips on communication etiquette with folks who are Hard of Hearing or Deaf. I never miss out in meetings, I’m never told “it’s not important” when I ask people to repeat themselves, I get everything I need to do my job in text form as well as spoken catch ups when needed. I don’t miss out anymore and it feels amazing. At Quadmark, I feel like I can do anything. This is what work should always feel like.

Any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Quadmark?

Tip 1: Put your whole self into your application, Quadmarkers don’t hold back. When you work here, you bring your whole, authentic self to work, you should never feel like you have to hide away or pretend to be anything you’re not. Be passionate. Be nerdy. Be curious. Be yourself.

Tip 2: Apply. That's it. That's the most important tip.
