Fiona’s insights into securing an auditing role with PWC

Created on 12 Dec 2022

We recently caught up with Fiona about how she secured an auditing job with PwC, her top tips for the application process and how Bright Network helped her secure the role.

What stood out to you about PwC?

Firstly, I liked PwC’s reputation. I liked that they are a global multinational company which meant I had lots of room to grow not only personally but professionally as well. Since they work in both accountancy and consultancy, it allowed for more development for my growth. In terms of the programme itself, they provided lots of extras, such as getting a professional skills qualification.

How did you make your application stand out?

I think I was genuine about why I wanted the certain role and what about it stood out to me. I think they recognised that and appreciated my reasoning.

What part of the application process did you find the most challenging?

I think I found the video interviews most difficult. They involved recording myself in my room in response to a recording of someone asking questions. There is no feedback from the interviewer obviously as there is no one there. In a normal interview, you would be able to gauge how well you were doing and I think without that natural feedback, I found it very difficult.

Since Fiona completed the process, PwC have changed the way they interview at this stage and now the questions are written down instead of recorded, plus you can expect a report afterwards with feedback on how this went.

Did you get any feedback in the past that helped you with your application?

I did some interview preparation with my friends and I found it helped to have a third party watch over me speaking and give their honest feedback on how I was doing. As they were friends, they could be as brutal as possible, all in good spirit, which I think helped my video interviews be as good as possible.

What top tips would you give Bright Network members looking to follow in your footsteps?

  1. Don’t be afraid of having a diverse and unique background. This was definitely the case for me. As much as you may think it’s a disadvantage, it can actually be very advantageous and help you stand out from the crowd.
  2. Research into the job role. Not only the specific job role but know where you want to progress in the future that this job could help you get there in five or ten years down the line.
