The application process at Alpha FMC

Book open Reading time: 2 mins

STEP 1: Application Submission

Submit your CV and answer some basic eligibility questions.

STEP 2: Blended Assessment & Video Interview

Provided you are eligible for your chosen role, you will be asked to complete an online blended assessment and video interview. The blended assessment will contain a range of questions and tasks for you to answer, all within a relevant business setting, including behavioural and applied intellect (verbal & numerical) items.

After completing the blended assessment, you will then be asked to complete a short video interview. The video interview questions are designed to assess your understanding of Alpha, your motivations for the role and your relevant skills.

Once you have completed the assessment, you will receive a personalised feedback report based on your performance, outlining your areas of strength as well as development.

Note that Technical Analyst graduates will complete a coding assessment following this step.

STEP 3: Shortlisting & Assessment Centre

If you pass the blended assessment and video interview stage, you will be put into the shortlisting process where Alpha will select the candidates to be invited to an assessment centre. The assessment centre consists of 3 components:

  • CV/Competency-Based Interview: a one-to-one competency-based interview with one of Alpha’s consultants to talk you through your motivations for the role. This will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about Alpha and the role.
  • Case Study: a ‘mock’ project that assesses a combination of logical problem solving, creative thinking and soft skills. You will be presented with a briefing document, Excel data and a PowerPoint template and will be asked to prepare and present a slideshow containing analysis and a set of recommendations. There will be a short Q&A and debrief at the end to provide feedback.
  • Group Exercise: you will work with other candidates to solve a challenge together. This will test your ability to work effectively in a team.

The assessment centres are currently being run remotely but we hope to return to in-person assessment centres over 2022/23. Timetables, Zoom links, and access to our file management system (Box) will be shared in advance of the assessment centre. There is an informal session at the end of the assessment centre to hear from our recent graduates and ask them questions.

STEP 4: Final Round Interview

If you are successful at the assessment centre, you will be invited to a final round interview with one of Alpha’s Directors. This interview will assess your motivations for the role, commercial awareness and will provide you an opportunity to ask any further questions you might have.
