Tim | Life as Head of Video Production at Quadmark

Book open Reading time: 2 mins

Tim is Head of Video Production at Quadmark. Find out more about him below.

I have been making films all my life, music videos, product videos and such too. But I have no formal education in filming. This is something I feel is really important to bear in mind - some people feel like they have to have the best education to ever be considered for something they are good at, this is not always true. I have a massive obsessive love for music and sound, which led me to sound effect design.

What has been the single most important thing you learnt so far in your job?

Everyone's an expert in something; rely on your colleagues, get them involved. Not only does it result in a better final product, it also inspires and engages people who may not usually be involved.

What would a ‘normal’ day look like for someone in your role?

Lots of admin and forward planning, as head of video production I am looking at all upcoming shoots, planning shots, sorting studios, kit, setups and set dressings for half of my day, the other half I am either editing footage, or creating sound effects - sitting in front of a mic, with all sorts of random things that might sound fun.

What is the culture like?

It's reminiscent of spending time with siblings. It's growing, changing, expanding.

How important is diversity/inclusion/accessibility to you and what is Quadmark doing in this space?

It's almost the single most important thing, and should be the first thing any company looks at/considers. Without it, people will feel excluded, and that means that you will not always be getting the right people for the job. Diversity, inclusion and accessibility not only makes individuals happier, but results in better work completed.

Quadmark has been making very active strides to improve things, and is involving the right people which is super nice to see. With anything like this, it is an ongoing journey and doesn't get "fixed" - so long as QM never rests and decides they have now done enough and will stop improving, they will always be doing the right thing.

Any tips for anyone who’d like to apply for a role at Quadmark?

Be yourself; individuality breeds creativity. And in a market so saturated with options, creativity is what wins over all. If you don't know something, it's cool, no one knows everything. What you do know could easily be more valuable than what you don't.

What made you apply to QM?

The clients, the projects and what I had heard from people I had spoken to.
