What life with DCC is really like | Aodhan's story

My core role is managing the marketing for our Cloud and Security software business. Day-to-day this includes writing briefs, meeting with vendors, creating marketing plans and being a liaison between the Cloud and Security team and marketing. I am currently studying for a Certificate in Management Accounting, which is sponsored by DCC, and we also receive periodic training to support us in our roles.

During my first placement in DCC Vital, part of DCC’s Healthcare Division, I was a part of the team for the acquisition of Wörner Medizinprodukte, expanding DCC Vital into Germany. I am learning so much every day and getting to meet people from across the business.

DCC covers so many different industries and well-known brands, but not many people have heard of it. I think it stands out because it is so dynamic and able to invest in changing itself for the future. As a business that retails oil and sells gas it is going to be going through a transitional period in the coming years. It will be interesting to see how it changes to adapt to the changing needs of the world, as it did during the pandemic.

I really enjoy the variety, having come into a new role I do something different every day and have the opportunity to network with well-known brands, as well as do really interesting work such as on acquisitions. I’m open to options in the future and want to continue broadening my experiences, so I know what I want to do.

The application process was well set up and the assessment centre was a highlight. It was obvious they invested a lot into the recruitment process, and they really value graduates on the scheme. The CEO did a Q&A, and we had the opportunity to have dinner with current graduates after a drinks reception with senior management from across the business.

Just go for it and don’t think you aren’t good enough or come from the wrong background. The graduate scheme has people from all walks of life, nationalities, and undergraduate disciplines.
