Once you have finished analysing the case, you should then summarise the key findings and use them to form a coherent and well-structured set of recommendations. Consider the following structure:
- Conclusion
- Recommendation(s) regarding the action to be taken
- Supporting arguments (try to come up with at least three, depending on the case)
- Restatement of the conclusion
For instance, if a particular case concerns a company that is considering expanding into new markets, you could close the case in the following way:
“I believe that Company X has the potential to succeed in Foreign Market A and it should therefore enter that market. This is for three key reasons:
- The competition in Foreign Market A has not yet been well-established, affording Company X the opportunity to benefit from first-mover advantage;
- Foreign Market A has grown rapidly and has the potential for further growth (and Company A could take advantage of this);
- Market research indicates that foreign customers have a keen interest in purchasing Company A’s products.
To reiterate, for all these reasons, company ABC should enter the foreign market.”
One way in which you can impress your interviewer is by subsequently theorising that further research may need to be completed in order to refine the recommendations/solutions, time permitting.
