Eligibility
We cannot accept those with a degree, or working towards a degree in a field associated with the apprenticeship (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or similar)Do you have a passion for software development and systems? Would you love to participate in the design and development process, as well as analysing and improving the scalability, efficiency, and quality of media products?
Apple is excited to announce that applications are open for our 2025 UK Software Apprenticeship programme, with opportunities to pursue pathways as a Software Engineer (Level 4) and a Dev Ops Engineer (Level 4) available.
No prior experience or knowledge is required. This is a full time paid role and you will learn everything you need to know through the programme.
The Programme
At Apple we believe our employee community should reflect the diverse, ever-evolving world we serve. We’re committed to inclusive sourcing and hiring practices. With a focus on increasing talent that is under-represented in business, our Apprenticeship Programme is designed to help achieve that goal.
We aim to combine hands-on experience with virtual learning, including one-to-ones with coaches and mentors, tutorials and proper programming projects. You’ll work on a one-to-one basis with a dedicated skills coach, and progress alongside the other apprentices.
You will be given every opportunity to develop your career through exposure to advanced technology, wider business communities and tailor-made training programmes.
What are we offering?
We are offering opportunities for motivated Apprentices to join our team of Software Developers at Apple.
Both Software Engineering (Level 4) and Dev Ops Engineering (Level 4) apprenticeship pathways are available, as 24 month roles starting September 2025.
As an apprentice, you will contribute to the ongoing development of products and services while working to achieve your apprenticeship qualification.
We aim to combine hands-on experience with virtual learning, in collaboration with our partner Apprenticeship provider Makers. This will include working on a one-to-one basis with coaches and mentors as well as tutorials and proper software development projects alongside fellow apprentices. The program includes an initial technical ‘Bootcamp’ which takes place remotely.
You will be given every opportunity to develop your career through exposure to advanced technology, wider business communities, and tailor-made training programmes.
What’s the difference between the Software Developer and DevOps apprenticeships?
In essence Software Engineering is more focussed on writing code and developing high quality applications; whereas DevOps is more focussed on automating the operation of the infrastructure required to run applications (e.g. computers, networks, storage, databases etc.). Both roles are integral to the development and delivery of modern software services, have a high degree of overlap and are highly collaborative.
More information about the skills you will learn as a L4 Software Developer can be found here. And information about the skills you will learn as a L4 DevOps Engineer can be found here.
How do I apply?
There is a single application process that covers both Software Developer and DevOps Engineer pathways. As part of the application process you will be asked if you have a preference for one or the other. If you don’t have a preference and would like to apply for both pathways then you can express this on the application form.
Application link will appear here on 14 February.
Am I eligible?
There are no minimum qualifications needed to apply although we do advise that a pass to a Level 2 qualification (GCSE grade C/4+) in English and Maths is beneficial. However, you can take this qualification during your apprenticeship supported by your team at Apple if you are successful. You will need to pass both by the end of the course to gain accreditation for the apprenticeship.
Please note we cannot accept those with a degree, or working towards a degree in a field associated with the apprenticeship (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or similar), or who are working professionally in the fields of Software Development or DevOps.
To be eligible you must:
- Be aged 16+ at the time of enrolment
- Not be in full time education
- Have the right to work in the UK. You must also have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for the past three years. Individuals with certain types of immigration status who have the right to work in the UK (such as refugees) may be exempt from the three year rule
- Have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) or have obtained pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
- Not already hold a qualification at the same level and subject area (e.g. in software engineering or computer science).
- Require substantive new skills and knowledge in order to carry out the apprenticeship job role. You will complete an initial assessment that analyses your existing skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications against that of the apprenticeship to confirm that you meet the training need requirement
Where will I be based?
All roles will be London based. Relocation support is provided through Apple on successful application.
How do I know if the apprenticeship is right for me?
Think about where you are in your career, and if this is the right time for a career change. Can you commit to a 24-month programme? Consider an informal conversation with your Manager or Career counsellor to help you make the right choice.
